Should Whitney Houston death and funeral be covered? yes, but not all the big cable news networks (MSNBC, FOXNEWS & CNN) with several hours of live coverage. I think the rating M.J.'s coverage received after his death has clouded the judgement of news editors, this is something entertainment mags should cover TMZ, ET, Inside Ed etc NOT cable News, to think of all the hard news stories not being covered (e.g. Syrian troops firing on mourners in Damascus, Canadian government accused of muzzling its scientists on environment issues, Iran's nuclear ambitions etc)

    Howard,
How can you honestly sit in front of a camera in say that Whitney Houston death doesn't deserve a large amount of news coverage. Where in the world have you been for the past three decades? Whitney was the most beloved and influential female singer in the world. She set the standard for female artists. The woman has inspired a generation of musical talents such as christina Aguilera, Adele, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and the list goes on and on. what in the hell are you talking about? Whitney was an icon of American music. You should be ashamed of yourself for questioning whether someone of her status deserves media coverage. I remember hearing the same ridiculous sentiments from you after the death of global Icon Michael Jackson? Why did you not questioned the outrageous media coverage of Anna Nicole Smith death which went on for months. She was a talentless star that did not have any impact of American culture what so ever. Yet after her death, you never said anything close to the statements you have made about the black Icons I outlined in this post. Sir, It is one thing to questioned the deaths of talentless stars but American Icons? Thanks for letting me know what a small minded individual you are. I will never ever watch your program again. You are disgrace to your profession. CNN TAKE NOTICE!!!!!

Well said, Fatima. Questioning the amount of covergae this story is getting (and will continue to get) is certainly legitimate, but this is still heartbreaking. We will miss her talent, it was immense.

The hyped coverage of the death of a has-been pop singer, Whitney Houston, is getting the treatment it is because of the 24/7 media environment. Now, we will have to listen to absurd claims like she was the greatest entertainer ever and a greater talent than Beethoven for an indefinite period of time.

I find the Reliable Sources host's question about whether the heavy coverage of Whitney Houston's death is warranted a curious question to ask given her status in American pop culture. Did he ask the same question about the coverage of Amy Winehouse's tragic death? Please give Whitney the credit she is due, whatever her flaws may have been towards the end of her life. She was a great talent, an international superstar, and her music is integrally woven into the fabric of the soundtrack of our lives. Yes, Mr. Kurtz, Whitney's death is worthy of the coverage it is getting, and then some.
