Sneak peek at this Sunday's show

By Cassie Spodak, CNN

Are the media ganging up on Republican candidate Mitt Romney? Conservative pundits claim a biased press is rooting against Romney, looking for “gaffes” and grumbling about access to the candidate. But are conservatives just blaming the messenger? Debra Saunders, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, Michael Shear, a political reporter for The New York Times, and Bill Press, a host at Current TV, will discuss recent political coverage.

When journalist Michael Moynihan found discrepancies in quotes from Jonah Lehrer’s book Imagine, he uncovered a web of lies. The piece Moynihan wrote in Tablet Magazine about the book ultimately led to Lehrer resigning from his position as a staff writer at The New Yorker. Moynihan will discuss how his obsession with Bob Dylan clued him in, and the repercussions of his piece.

NBC has been getting some flack for their coverage of Olympics 2012, especially on social media. When one journalist voiced his criticism on Twitter, his account was suspended – was the social media platform crossing the line by trying to protect its partnership with NBC? Both NBC and Twitter claim it was a miscommunication, and the Twitter account has been restored. Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine.com discusses how the Olympics are playing out on social media.

WikiLeaks, an organization that has faced criticism for its methods of uncovering information, recently put a fake Op-Ed online from Bill Keller defending its methods. The former executive editor and columnist for The New Times will discuss his relationship with WikiLeaks as well as other issues facing the media today, from transparency to tighter budgets.

This Sunday, 11 a.m. ET.

Together with the whole thing which seems to be developing within this area, many of your viewpoints tend to be rather refreshing. Nevertheless, I beg your pardon, because I can not subscribe to your whole plan, all be it stimulating none the less. It seems to me that your comments are actually not totally justified and in fact you are generally your self not really thoroughly convinced of your assertion. In any case I did take pleasure in reading it.

ya know, every time, I hear , Mr. Paul open his mouth I can't help but wondering, What kind of uisrevne is he living in? Any logical mind knows if Iran gets the Bomb, they will use it without thinking twice. And yet Mr. Paul has this Pollyanna view of the world. God help us if n=by some very slim chance and I mean slim, he is elected President. If it happens I will pray for our nation and allies. Our Allies, because we will have none.

Reliable Sources, ha, once again aided and abetted hypocrisy in journalism with interview of Michael Moynihan who exposed the young successful journalist and author, Jonah Lehrer’s made-up Dylan quotes and ruined his career. So who is Michael Moynihan? According to Wikipedia he is either a neo-fascist or a radical political journalist. Does CNN tell us about the background of a guy who destroyed a Rhodes scholar’s career ? Nope. Here is Wikipedia’s two Moynihan’s. Which one is it? Neither is a stellar example of artistic purity. Dylan fan? Uh-huh, sure.
Michael Moynihan (b. January 17, 1969, Boston, Massachusetts) is an American journalist, publisher and musician. He is best known for co-writing the book Lords of Chaos, about black metal. Moynihan is founder of the music group Blood Axis, ….In the 1990s, Moynihan was frequently identified as a fascist or neo-fascist by some critics and fans. Moynihan accepted these descriptions with reservations in the 1990s,[2] …….
Michael C. Moynihan is an American journalist and managing editor of Vice magazine. Before that he was a senior editor of the libertarian magazine Reason. …He was a resident fellow of the free-market think tank, Timbro. …. After censorship by Comedy Central of an episode of South Park in 2010 that featured a depiction of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, Moynihan announced his support for the protest movement, "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day".

As follow-up, if you want me to really believe you have "Reliable Sources" and not just more yellow opinion journalism, them provide background, do the due diligence and don't just take the low hanging sensationalistic stories at face value. Check your *&%$# sources or you are just another Fox, MSNBC, or CNN opinion talk host. Your blowback benefit of following Fareed Zarkaria, a brilliant mind and journalist, has now been eliminated for me.

Your argument fails easily: while decrying Kurtz for not doing due diligence background on Moynihan, you use Wikipedia to give his background—a notoriously unreliable source. Wikipedia's rules for the persistence of content require citations to outside sources of fact, debated among its members as to its veracity, except for exceptional (and rare) circumstances; it is not itself a primary source.

Mr Howerd would have us believe that he is old Mr reliable calls it just like he see's it. but when Bill Keller said fox
news is the most one sided news network based on his example of fox and friends, Mr Howard just sat there knowing full well that morning Joe on msnbc is all democrats all day ! you hardly even see Joe anymore. and his beloved CNN's morning show hosted by that great race baiting Solidad obrian and everyone knows how non partisan Matt Lauer and George stepinouphalis are. and old mister reliable just sits there silent. BS show.

I understood Mr. Keller to say that "Fox and Friends" is primarily an Obama bashing session. And I guess I've missed the "all democrats all day" of Morning Joe. Even when Joe is off site, they always have other conservatives on. The other morning shows tend to not be One Topic programs.

Reid says Romney hasn't paid taxes – said so on the Senate floor. The returns Romney has released prove Reid is a liar. We have an "official" unemployment rate of 8.3 per cent, anemic growth, a real unemployment rate of who knows how high with our diminished workforce and Harry Reid, America's gift to solving our economic woes engages in what Bill Press says is "diabolical." Good luck to all of us.

Such an uplifiting campaign. Harry Reid lies through his teeth and Bill Press says it's great. "It's diabolical but it's working." Hurray, we could say the same for nixonian and mccarthyite tactics. We can be so proud of progressives.

Agreed – and everytime the press refuses to call Romney on his lies -even when substantiated- the same can be said of conservatives. There are no angels in this campaign. Again it gets down to having to fight fire with fire. Can't prove Romney paid taxes and can't prove Reid really does have a source.

That was the WORST debate yet .in it's prdiuctoonAnswers were cut off and interruptedOnly 1 hour of the 1-1/2 debate was televised and the stream crashed after an hourIt was Saturday (Date night) night during two big time college football gamesCBS must either hate ratings or was instructed by the Progressives to schedule the debate at a time when no one would see GOP candidates rip Obama's disaster of a foreign policy

Harry Reid's statement is just as disgusting as Mitt Romney's continued refusal to ask the voters to "Trust" what he says without releasing his taxes. Doesn't anybody get this point??? I believe he has already proven (in previous electons) that he will lie about his taxes without batting an eye. I'm frankly glad to see the Left fighting fire with fire.

I'm reminded of the Reaganism, "Trust, but verify." The only irony I want to highlight here is that Romney is attempting to follow in the shadow of Reagan (with a party that purportedly wants to do the same) while happily ignoring its required corollary to "trust": he wants us to trust him without providing the means to verify what he says.

I know Harry Reid is ALL BAD yada yada but WHERE THE HELL are you guys on reporting that ROMNEY replied with 'this originated in the WHITE HOUSE!' And he shouldn't reveal HIS 'sources'...just Harry Reid? OMIGOD Harry is the Senate Majority Leader and he should be BETTER than this...but Romney? nah...we KNOW he lies. What a bunch of rubes you guys are. Reliable Sources indeed.

    August 5, 2012 at 11:22 am | Reply
    • Pete1409

He said may have originated in the White House, or words to that effect. Romney has no sources on this made up story, there is nothing to reveal so since the origin of it is Reid there would be no discussion had he not begun it. Pretty basic. Democrats have been scandal-mongering since Watergate, you'd think the "party of the people" would be walking to victory with 80 per cent of the electorate since the Republicans only care about the "rich." But with leaders like Reid who have become millionaires while in office people correctly conclude that both sides stink.
