A Canadian newspaper faces backlash over reporting amid a widening mayoral scandal. Howard Kurtz talks to Toronto Globe and Mail editor-in-chief John Stackhouse.
If you burn this guy and don't try to help him u are all wrong! Nobody did anything to that bum Marion Barry of Washington D.C. caught with some who're and smoking crack... just because this guy is white causes it all to be sensationalism. The crooks and crack pots would be you members of the worldwide order of yellow journalism...
Two errors in your report yesterday morning. First, the intro referred to the Toronto reporters (who viewed the alleged video) as being incorrectly with the Toronto SUN while the titles under the video correctly identified them as working for the Toronto STAR. Second, your intro said you'd talk with the editor of Toronto's largest [circulation] newspaper but that too is the Toronto STAR (the newspaper that corroborated the Gawker story and began the reporting frenzy on this story) and not the GLOBE & MAIL, the newspaper that your interviewee John Stackhouse works for. With such basic errors in fact, one really begins to wonder about other stories on your show (which I watch or record religiously)!
FYI The Toronto STAR and Toronto SUN are the city's two local newspapers, while the GLOBE & MAIL is a Toronto-based newspaper that is published across the country as "Canada's national daily newspaper", as is the NATIONAL POST.
There is no proof. The "Video" has NOT surfaced.
The Toronto Star said, that a Un-named source said that Mayor Ford ordered documents and emails to be destroyed.
Two people within Toronto City Hall have come forward, and said that this was not true.
The Toronto Star also said that from a un-named source, in a meeting that Mayor Ford stated the address of where this "video was/is".
Again another member of the staff in City Hall said that this was NOT true.
They have also tried to link Mayor Ford to the murder of a former player Kwado (Kojo) Mensah of the foot ball team he coached.
Toronto Police have stated that Mayor Ford has no links to the murder of Kwado (Kojo) Mensah.
Now more than ever, the press is a part of every story it covers. And CNN's "Reliable Sources" is one of television's only regular programs to examine how journalists do their jobs and how the media affect the stories they cover.
Brian Stelter is the host of "Reliable Sources" and the senior media correspondent for CNN Worldwide. Before he joined CNN in November 2013, Stelter was a media reporter for The New York Times. He is the author of the New York Times best-seller "Top of the Morning."
