I am a 25 year U.S. Army enlisted retiree. I have grown extremely tired of the growing acceptance of American society being so tolerant and politically correct minded when it comes to appalling, despicable and even criminal behavior by our citizenry. I could talk about so many cases running through our vast, overwhelming, beat me over the head with the commentators' opinion media. Mr. Snowden is not a whistleblower and should not be treated with kid gloves as though he were. Had he delivered some unclassified evidence or simply told someone that this was going on then maybe, but no, he used his sensitive position to steal a Top Secret document and surrender it to a journalist at a non-U.S. publication to be revealed to the entire world. I don't want to hear the lame excuses for why he did it this way. There are no excuses, none. This is treason. He was indoctrinated for access to classified information before starting work, as are all of us that have government clearances, where you sign an agreement of non-disclosure. This does not end at your convenience. This is not in force only if you agree with what you see, read or feel in the execution of your job. Snowden violated the same agreement that millions of military, civil servants and industrial contractors have agreed to. If everyone that disagrees with a policy or procedure that they happen to be privy to then our security infrastructure would crumble and destroy this county from within. Snowden is a worthless piece of junk. He did this for his own advancement and fame, period. The same for the columnist and the publication. They are out for their own advancement and then hide behind being a so called "journalist" so they can't be prosecuted for damaging and damning information release in their rag. They did this for ratings and circulation and in an attempt to become famous. Let's stop mincing words. This country and especially the media is being led by a bunch of spineless, mealy-mouthed, losers that are bought an paid for by the highest bidder or the richest special interest group. Thank God for Mike Rogers finally calling Snowden out as a traitor. Then on top of that the ignorance of the media shines brightest when they interviewed Christopher Boyce for his opinion on Snowden. It made me sick to my stomach that they would be so stupid to give this other piece of S**T that sold classified information to the Russians another moment in the lime light after doing what he did. The ignorance of this decision to interview him is mind boggling. If you want to interview someone interview a soldier that lost limbs defending this country and Snowden's right to be a treasonous b*&^%$d without being put in front of a firing squad for it. Interview some of your first line responders and ask what they think of what Snowden has done. Stop talking to politicians since they are all highly educated liars and cheap pawns with few exceptions. If you want some down to earth, real responses to what is happening contact some real blue collar Americans that love this country above all else. But if you are scared of airing responses from real people except in 1 second sound bites or if you prefer to stick to your scripted respondents so you don't lose your supporters then keep doing what you do. Let's talk about the NSA, the IRS, the ridiculous execution by Congressional Committees on anything, the Martin case (not the Zimmerman murder case), North Korea, Russia, Afghanistan, Syria, the failing Department of Homeland Security (TSA/CBP/USCIS) but be prepared, I am a realist, honest and in your face but I could care less about being PC at the expense of my country.
How is The Guardian anything BUT a British newspaper? Its URL extension is "UK"; it spells words like "color" and "flavor" as "colour" and "flavour". And just today, it discussed the consumption of meat in kilos and not pounds.
This gentleman is completely correct. He cites as an example of the complicity, in essence, of journalists with government the case of the run up to the Iraq war. In that case journalists were little more than mouthpieces for the government position – thus they essentially propagandized the public for the government. Journalism as such seems to have very much lost its way, or function, or even place or value to society by this compliance and lack of critical evaluation of what is presented to them as 'truth'. It is ironic, and telling, that the NSA has issued criminal counts to investigate the leaks, and no doubt this journalist – but no criminal counts have been issued to establish whether or not a substantive breach of the constitution, and thus the underlying law of the land, was in fact perpetrated by the government itself. One also wonders as to the mindset of the people executing this program – were they not required to take an oath to protect and defend the constitution?
