All the sour grapes on display against Greenwald show why this was such an important Pulitzer. There is far too much distance between the important truths that Greenwald, Poitras, et. al. have been reporting, and the perception that many people have about it thanks to months of relentless character assassination and yellow journalism by faux-patriot, establishment-gladhanding partisan pundits and their Washington, DC allies.

How first-world citizens of nominally democratic countries can begrudge Greenwald and co. his moment of recognition for having made them aware of government lying and civil rights abuse is simply beyond me. It's in fact so beyond me that I can't help but suspect those commenters, especially those voicing the same few criticisms over and over again, of being the product of disinformation campaigns as advertised in the leaked documents.

Greenwald is a hero and only disgraceful people criticize Snowden.

Greenwald's enthusiasm for Edward Snowden is a little troubling. While there certainly is a need for whistle blowers, this does not automatically confer saintly status. That the government uses phone records is nothing new, as any watcher of real crime stories knows full well. What public benefit was derived by Snowden's revelations that our government has hacked the cell phones of some of our international allies? This is certainly not a civil rights issue. The balance between national security and privacy is a difficult issue, but we certainly don't want to become the only major industrialized nation to voluntarily blind itself.

In the meantime, Snowden hides in Moscow, long known for it's just and open government.

The NSA's complete evisceration of the Fourth Amendment and Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution is very much a civil rights issue, as you well know.

Snowden is in Russia because the draconian and secret US government revoked his passport and has threatened other countries from granting him asylum. But you know all of that too.

The fact that my taxpayer dollars go to secret government agencies for the purpose of spying on myself makes me angry. The fact that my taxpayer dollars go to people like you for the purpose of spreading nonsense and misinformation is proof that these agencies are compulsive liars and should be de-funded.

The interview with GREENWALD was very pro-GREENWALD, not objective. For example, David Gregory's question to GREENWALD was cut in such a way as to eliminate Gregory's set up, which made it clear that Gregory was relaying a question that others were asking. Reliable sources? This was a fawning and unreliable interview.
