Harlequin swooped up by News Corp

News Corp (NWS), the publishing company chaired by Rupert Murdoch, said Friday that it would pay $415 million to acquire Harlequin, best known for romance novels sometimes nicknamed "bodice rippers." (Murdoch is, coincidentally, newly single.)
Harlequin, currently owned by Torstar Corporation, will become part of News Corp's HarperCollins Publishers. News Corp said the deal will give HarperCollins a bigger presence in a "key content vertical" and in markets outside the United States.
Almost a year ago, Murdoch's News Corporation spun its global television and film businesses like Fox News and Fox Sports into a new entity named 21st Century Fox; his newspapers and book publishing imprints remained a part of the much-reduced News Corp.

Why does CNN not make their programs available in real time on their website? The reporting this morning on Bengazi was so off base and, as usual, there was no guest to represent an opposing view. Carl Bernstein? Really? I don't think Bengazi is comparable to Watergate, Iran Contra, Lewinsky or Iraq. The scandal of Bengazi is the scandal of our overwhelmingly left leaning media allowing their own bias to influence reporting on the story sans normal journalistic honesty and vigor; a story that may have impacted a presidential election. Democrats repeat over and over, nothing was 'intentional'. Except the blatant attempt to cover it was an attack by Al Qaeda, which would have been politically inconvenient for Obama. I can only imagine the cheers among Obama campaign staff When your shill Candy Crowley, interrupted during the presidential debate. I don't know how we are ever to correct the bias that now permeates our media. The journalism school are run by ever more left wing professors. Please try for some accuracy and relevance in your article. "Bodice ripper" is a passe term (and certainly a derogatory term) for certain fiction that was produced largely in the 1970's and 1980's. It is not what is published currently by Harlequin if it ever was, but since Harlequin's audience is primarily female, you seem to think it perfectly acceptable to use derogatory terminology and condescending prose. And why, exactly, is Mr. Murdoch's marital status relevant to an article about the acquisition of a valuable publishing house?
Actually, you are wrong. Bodice rippers were a derogatory term made up by male reporters that referred to the early days of historical romantic fiction that had come out in the 1970s. What Harlequin publishes is called ROMANTIC fiction or even ROMANCES. Which is the largest selling genre in publishing, by the way.
DO try and be accurate and polite in your stories. You aren't Fox News, after all, no matter how far your standards have fallen since Ted Turner sold your company to Time Warner.

Seriously? A half a billion dollar deal and you go with a "nickname" that is not only offensive within the industry but outdated by about 25 years. Why? Is it because the business is primarily by and for women? Obviously we still don't rate respect.
