First, let me qualify myself. I am a retired Disney executive. I have advanced degrees and consider myself to be quite liberal politically. I’ve been a Democrat all my life and watch CNN faithfully, agreeing with your observations and comments almost 100%.
So take this as positive criticism. Your reporters, in particular Jim Acosta and, to a lesser degree, Jake Tapper, need to stop playing ‘gotcha’ (especially at press conferences) with Trump during this Coronavirus crisis. You make CNN appear petty and ‘small’ while making Trump look like the bigger hero; and we all know he is not. You can claim: “nothing but the facts” all day long, or need to correct the record, but your timing is off.
Look, I’m just a marketing guy, but you know as well as I you’ve got to take into account the way you’re coming across. You’re contributing to a fake heroism Trump doesn’t deserve. People are scared and even the liberal folks who know the real Trump will tend to give him (any leader who can speak English) at this time, the benefit of the doubt. Look, when I start thinking Trump’s retorts to Acosta are justified, then you guys need to back off. You’ll give him the election in the fall if you keep this as a strategy. For now, it’s the wrong one.

On the CNN show Reliable Sources the comment was made about Fox News being to bias when the only panelists on the show on CNN were Anti-Trump and always Anti-Trump. To criticize Fox for being bias is extremely hypocritical coming from CNN. But I don't expect anything different. And by the way what is CNN's ratings?

It didn't used to, the Specs are Nvidia 5500gt, 1gb RAM, so on, I know it's not the latest computer out there, it's mostly for playing very old games or surfing the internet. The computer automatically restarts at the beginning of a streaming video, it doesn't even try to run it. I ran the computer in safe mode with networking at was able to stream video but there was no sound. It used to be able to stream video..

Thanks for this excellent article. Yet another thing to mention is that almost all digital cameras are available equipped with some sort of zoom lens that allows more or less of that scene to become included by means of 'zooming' in and out. These kind of changes in target length are usually reflected inside the viewfinder and on substantial display screen right at the back of the particular camera.

Self Destruction of the Free Press
Decades ago, the Free Press was known as the Fourth Estate as it “... [provides] both in explicit capacity of advocacy and implicit ability to frame political issues ... [and] wields significant indirect social influence.” Nowadays that has been weakened by constantly and repeticely refering to the Free Press as “Fake news”. The Washington Post has compiled over nine thousand instances of falsehoods and misleading statements by the same person that calls reports that are not liked as Fake News.
The Free Press has the opportunity to report these statements as untrue and, thus, Fake News. And at the same time reporting these statements as facts, thus, Real News as reported by the Free Press. The Free Press has done this occasionally not completely to the same extent as the Free Press is called Fake News. People have been saturated with Fake News with little response from the Free Press, to it's own detriment.

Editorial commentary, analysis and opinion pieces, whether written by the editors of the publication ( editorials ) or outside authors ( op-eds ) are reliable primary sources for statements attributed to that editor or author, but are rarely reliable for statements of fact. Human interest reporting is generally not as reliable as news reporting, and may not be subject to the same rigorous standards of fact-checking and accuracy (see junk food news ).

Please do no accept Republican lies about the economy...and allow them to spread disinformation about it on your show...they did everything they could to hurt the economy when it was under threat & Obama held the presidency. Boldfaced lies about growth levels that I just witnessed.

    Facts:

US economic growth revised down to 2.2% rate in first quarter of 2018. WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy grew at a weaker 2.2% annual rate in the first three months of the year, as consumers and businesses slowed their spending. ... GDP is expected to strengthen to a growth rate of about 3% in the April-June quarter.May 30, 2018

More often than not, tipsters, readers, friends, and one's own flesh of Eater comprise one-liner question: Where should anyone eat vindicate now? Restaurant obsessives want to discern what’s restored, what’s burning, which favorite chef nothing but launched a sophomore effort. And while the Eater 38 is a critical resource covering unused standbys and neighborhood essentials across the town, it is not a list of the “it” places of the moment. Thus, the crew offers the Eater Heatmap, which choice exchange on a methodical basis to forever Chicago's Top Restaurants highlight where the crowds are flocking to at the moment.

Shame on you!!! You are missing the point!!! Why are you accusing the editor of Time Magazine for using the wrong picture of a little girl on the cover? You should be accusing Pres. Trump and his administration for stealing innocent children from immigrant families seeking asylum in this country. Why aren't you putting them in the 'hot seat? Time magazine is enlightening the citizens of this country about what Pres. Trump is doing to these children and should be THANKED, NOT GRILLED. Question who is really to blame for this inhuman treatment of children: Pres. Trump

It would be interesting to propose to the democrats the following premise:

If Democrats take over control of Congress, in order to improve the country, will they bring forth to the floor clean bills during their tenure? Would this not unite reasonable adults on both sides? Wouldn’t this solve the current deadlock?

    The DACA BILL
    The Family reunification
Study where the majority of illegal influx is and improve the process
Determine what legal immigration should be
A path to citizenship and penalties to CORPORATE AMERICA for hiring illegal immigrants
    Campaign finance reform
    Gerrymandering

Issue by issue bring bills forth for the things all agree and then hold hearings to see what the best solution for the big problems are and debate with experts and put forth the best solutions to the issues!

The media could actually do its job by doing the following which would help this shift!

They need to stop booking people on shows that only lie, we need to advise anyone that comes on news shows that they need to come with FACTS to back their policy proposal, the pundits need to go back to the internet, the spin room stop validating their lies and vitriol.

The 24hrs news is as guilty as Trump, they are part of the bigger problem! The Bully is winning the war and the media is helping by equating a pundit to a reporter or an expert in the field. They spew lies and you permit it by having the same person on the next day instead of banning them until they acknowledge the lie and guarantee they will support their policy by FACTS NOT BELIEFS!

What is happening in America as we look on from here in Canada is starting to be alarming! It reminds us of Germany as Hitler slowly overtook the soul of the country as the masses looked the other way! And the USA has ten fold the military power Germany had at the time!

Fox News is a disgrace creating an alternate reality, where Shepard Smith is the tireless warrior fighting to keep reality alive! And let’s not even talk about Sinclair and the crazies like Alex Jones!

In a country where people in large parts believe universal healthcare is wrong somehow and more expensive says a lot! A country spoked for years by the GOP with bigotry, fear and victim-hood is exactly where it deserves to be. Because people don’t vote, don’t get informed. As Barack Obama once said the most important job in democracy is citizen not president! It seems the American people have been too complacent, they need to wake up before the alternate reality becomes the biggest nightmare the world has ever faced!

Even Rome fell, we need the USA to learn the lessons of history before China and Russia take over leaving the USA last, just as it is last in many aspects such as education, poverty levels, human rights and so many other things!

People often say the truth is subjective while the facts are objective. This could not be further than the truth. It is not true.

Why did you report this on your program? Why did you allow this to be stated without challenging it's veracity. The context was Trump's veracity. What about your own veracity? Isn't it irresponsible to report something that is untrue.

Truth is an abstract reality and a moments consideration will reveal that your conception of it precedes the evidence for it's concrete determination.

We are, in fact, so ignorant of the truth that we are bound by our a priori conception of its existence to prove a posteriori the evidence supporting it

The power of a lie, the problem of any lie will even if not true will go along way. .We you to fact check all of theses so call lies from trump good or bad . Lately a been hearing CNN repeat spy gate , which is not true , there no such thing.with the investigation of Mr. Trump. It's only going to get worst if you keep repeating the same lie.Lets all say what is is and make the lie what is is and call him out on it.I love your station and on a good day I can call trump out for at 11 lies a day . It's getting ridiculous.Lets be honest if he doesn't get called out of on this so its a bigger problem later. so bottom line.your station needs to attack this problem. And call trump a liar everyday he makes theses falsehoods .Your the honest station
Not the fake news he loves to call you. Thank you Linda B. You can make this better CNN

I generally enjoy your show though I know that like EVERY show there is SOME bias which can arise simply in the words chosen to convey the story (in other words, the alleged goal of becoming some sort of unbiased reporter who conveys "objective reality" is a pipe dream). It was your story on Caitlin Jenner, though, where I found you deviated from unavoidable bias to ... well, almost outright lies in your misreporting of the reaction to his/her "transformation". The suggestion by your guests that the transformation was pretty much universally welcomed/admired/accepted by open-minded, open-hearted (i.e., LIBERAL-minded) folks was completely undermined by Elinor Berkett's op-ed in the NY Times on the very same day of your coverage. In fact, it wasn't so much the op-ed itself, it was in the overwhelmingly favorable reader reaction by (open-minded, open-hearted, LIBERAL NYTImes) readers to her op-ed.

I know that the only people us open-minded folk in the multi-verse are not supposed to tolerate are those who are intolerant. But if you don't correct your mis-reporting about the supposed favorable reaction to Caitlin Jenner's coming out then I will hereinafter count you as among the same type of biased reporters as you are allegedly trying to ... well, to out. And, no, Brian's reference to the negative reaction to Jenner in the blogosphere doesn't count as it was very much suggested by him that it was only those "conservative haters" who had the problem.

Do the right thing, point to the Berkett article and the reaction to it and admonish those "politically-correct" guests of yours for their overly rose-colored viewpoint and who probably never met a person who wasn't somehow or another a victim and bold "survivor" of society's harsh and unreasonable judgment.

Enough of that already. After all, you HAVE reported on that so don;t become a part of it

It is disturbing to hear Trump 'inoculating' himself against future reported truth by labeling the press as dishonest. How does the press counter this very dangerous and strategic attack on a group that is essential to our freedom in America? Perhaps the press can counter this strategy and open themselves to transparency? Perhaps an up-front effort to demonstrate how they do their jobs–from war reporters to man-on-the-street interviewers. Invite critics of the press to tag along with an individual reporter and be responsible for the news for that day or couple of days. That experience could then be publicized as the 'Take A Citizen to Work' lay person sees the dogged investigative work, the repeated fact-checking, and the historic and contextual background research that goes into crafting a legible story.

Truly enjoy CNN and the many shows that strive to present the various issues within in the United States. As a Canadian, I am so sad to see how the Trump Era distorts the truth (Trump lies!) and supports such hateful events like those that occurred in Virginia. Trump is a moral coward and liar. How he remains as President is an indicator of how difficult & complex the process appears to be to remove this inept individual. I am so disheartened to see the tolerance for such an inept individual and the deep divisions along racial, social and ideological beliefs that will ultimately bring the downfall to a country that is so in need to resolve these issues. My prayers and thoughts are with the people of Virginia and the USA. Best wishes!! Thank goodness for people like Fareed, Brian, Anderson, Don and the rest of the CNN broadcasters. Continue your excellent critique of the country's issues. Love the CNN reports morning, noon and night! Dave

The media is important to America. It presents facts to America we would not be aware of if you did not exist.

On your broadcast befoRE State of the Union, your reporter hit the problem spot on. We need to hear about dismantling of the EPA, Trump (Orange Julius's) attacks on national Monuments, his many and huge tax breaks to millionaires, what is this going to do to the middle class? What income levels of the middle class?
What about the effects congress is having on Social Security and what is the health industry saying about these changes? What are the insurance companies doing about his changes. I heard a remark that some are against the change. What are they doing now? What is Trump and congress doing that will affect current retirees? I'm going to file for Social Security in three months and have to accept Medicare.

He also said Mr. Trump's tweets should not be given as much attention. I heartily agree with him. They are distractions to keep you from delving into the true State of the Nation. What is going on with the Russian investigation. I'm worried that the Russians are going to take over the country, nations are going to abandon mutually assured destruction treaty. (I'm sure you know the correct words.) When will we go to war. Why isn't Mr. Trump keeping us posted. He's playing it too close to his chest. There is NO transparency in his "administration" This is bad for the American people. I'm scared and scare tactics are not good for America. He is making America worse than when he took office.

PLEASE keep reporting. If I could find that site, I comment opposing their views.I support the journalists. Why not tell anonymous guys they are chicken and post their picture or you will give all Americans his name so we can threaten him. There more anti-Trump supporters than not.
    Sincerely,

Your attack on " The Most Trusted name in News", is lets say predictable. Your A Trump supporter, That's also predictable. As a registered Independent, I frequent both CNN and Faux News( No I didn't misspell it), If you are in to " Fake News" Go back to Fox, They sugar coat everything The President does, to please Trump, for ratings, and to make more palatable for folks like you ! If your interested in hearing the truth, You can trust CNN, NBC, ABC They report the facts of what Trump and his Administration put out.. Bottom Line is this, If Trump would stop putting out the fake news, These reliable and Honest networks would not have to report on it. Except for FAUX of course, FOX is not News, they are, lets say, entertainment.

The reason Fox news has fallen to the number 3 spot is because the Resistance has made a conscious decision to no longer watch the station. Because of who and what they represent.

Please don't accept or promote the trump troupes invitation to divide us further. Dissect and expose this so far successful attempt to sow divisiin and confusion. The media Has failed us. it allowed a huge portion of the electorate to fail to understand the artfice that trump has been successful in business or as a leader. He only makes money by divorcing profit from human progress. Indeed this eletion and debate is about that failure.

This Sunday you're covering the issue of Trump disparaging and possibly threatening the press, due in part to the democratization of news, where social media and organizations of any shape and size can weigh in on issues regardless of any facts assiciated with their posts, blogs, etc. I would argue with those that have pointed out that the Telecom. Act of 1996, when News could be bought by entitles that did not orginate with bringing factual news to people, could then conflate news with entertainment, is the root of the problem. So there real news could be separated from other related comments and the profit motive associated with marketing and the addiction to eyeballs, could be tempered. Please, discuss.

Dear Brian Stelter, I think you are doing a great job covering Trump but you shouldn't let your responsibility to balance and override your responsibility to cover the demagoguery and propaganda that swirl around Trump. I've been writing about propaganda for years mainly around the environment. The rhetoric the Trump team uses isn't just spin or lies it is demagoguery and of course it is authoritarian. This is more than odd politics from a strange guy, its dangerous propaganda. When a leader can lie over and over again and it doesn't matter to his supporters, when anyone who disagrees with you is biased or crooked open minded discourse has shut down that is a public square under the spell of propaganda. You should interview Yale's Jason Stanley.

Brian, I am not a pre election Trump Supporter. But if you want to evaluate Hillary as a poor candidate which she was. So many classic ethics violations, but you the press lost this election for her. As you couch your post election position and state your "fear" about Trump. I believe the media bias against Trump, from debate mediators, meet the press interruptions of Trump supporters, camera angles, misstating crowd numbers etc. so today you did what lost the election. You blame other views from your own as anti-media. You call Trump a fear monger, but isn't your show promoting a fear he didn't say. Bottom line, I believe 3 to 10% of Trumps vote was a rebellious vote to you and your co-horts. Interview the sentiment of the electorate to your so called fair and unbiased reporting. Some one like o'rielly can rule me, but he treated Clinton supporters and speakers with respect. His opinion was clear, but he doesn't just disrespect the other side. You gave us Trump!!!!

Jon R. – You have stated precisely what is on my mind. CNN, along with other mainstream media "MSM" sources, lost the faith and trust of half the nation and now has the chutzpah to self-servingly assert they are champions of journalistic ethics, while besmirching outlets that had the audicity to share the pesky, inconvenient facts that painted a more truthful picture than what MSM attempted to present to the public. Obviously, they still think we are idiots with CNN leading the pack with its laughable new blog.

Let's consider the issue of fact checking. Any competent attorney or jurist can attest that "facts" are maleable and can be distorted by the manner in which they are presented or omitted. Facts are often subjective as they rely upon the perceptions of human witnesses who may miss key elements due to conscious and subconscious personal biases. One can interview 10 witnesses to an automobile accident and obtain 10 versions that are not only different, but contradictory. The selection and manner of questions can have a tremendous impact when attempting to glean the truth. Ideally, opposing views should be given equal consideration with an unbiased eye that will also identify motives and potential inherent biases. Even demonstrative and scientific evidence is subject to vulnerability. If key evidence is not recovered or is mishandled, the outcome will not reveal the truth. Accordingly, determining the "who, what, where, why, and how" is not such a simple matter as "Reliable Sources" would have the public believe. Even assuming a journalist is ethical and completely without bias (an impossibility), no single outlet has the resources to reliably fact check most stories to the level where the facts presented are undisputed. As most Americans are acutely aware, only via the range of a large array of sources, can one get a balanced picture. It is completely dishonest for CNN to deign that they will be a reliable source.

For years, CNN has been notorious for advancing leftist leaning stories as facts while minimizing or outright ignoring the conservative viewpoint. They cherry pick "facts" to fit their narrative. A search of CNN.com provides ample evidence of the bias. Televised panels are overwhelmingly filled with noted liberals with only a slim selection of conservatives as a counterbalance. After the Wikileaks releases, CNN issued stories with skewed commentary that skipped over important revelations, including the full extent to which CNN staff colluded with Clinton. Why the scant soul searching within CNN about its own ethical breaches?

CNN – you blew it a long time ago. It is too late to make a credible argument that you could ever be a legitimate source of neutral, ethical reporting. Obviously, the public agrees as reflected by your abyssmal ratings. http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/scoreboard-thursday-november-10/310992

Jon R. I hit submit before adding my last comment. Just wanted to clarify that I am an unapologetic Trump supporter and am glad he won. I agreed with your argument about the need for respect and balance. Only disagree that CNN caused Hillary to fail. While CNN offended Trump supporters, they were already disgusted with the entire system. I honestly believe more citizens would have voted for Trump had more of the truth been reported as his positions were largely based on prioritizing Americans. We can't help the world, when our own house is in disarray. Hillary sold out the middle class and was a certain disaster. With Trump, there is at least some hope he will stand by his promises.

My comment is also responding to the latest hypocritical video attempting to discredit other news sources.

I just watched last episode of reliable source – I was very disheartened by the tone and " blowing off the time reporter as making a mistake". This goes to the crooks of why people think the media gives fake news. Also – who cares about the crowd size – however when you see a split screen between Obama inauguration crowd and Trump crowd that was totally biased I have a hard time. The trump crowd was early and showed lots of open space. At time of speech – they were similar – That is what people don't trust....

CNN you can no longer call yourselves anything that has to do with News. Who cares what Donald Trump says I don't believe the American people do. Hypocritical if anything so now the news is the morality police The new best talk about Clinton's lying scrubbing her servers and selling access to other countries. Saying something and doing something are two completely different things. If you were going to be on television presenting yourself as a News then you should have journalism degrees. like participation trophies becomes unimportant. This is why Trump has to become president to make America great again because we are surely the laughing stock world. News is not been news since it became a for-profit entity. How does talking about trumps tapes have anything to do with our country Or are economy our national security absolutely disgusting no wonder CNN has only a couple hundred thousand viewers. I watch it because it's tabloid television. And I enjoy watching people whore themselves out to make a living. I watch it for it's entertainment value but it has absolutely no newsworthiness.

To the question of why the public does not trust the news media, the news media has no one to blame but themselves. When news quit being news and became entertainment, their credibility was lost. "In depth analysis" now consists of bringing both sides surrogates/apologists on stage and let them yell and scream at each other. There are no debates, there are only name calling for the benefit of those audiences that appreciate the silliness. When the news media became The Jerry Springer Show, they lost their integrity.

So you want to know why the public doesn't trust you. Well, stop parading out Trump and Clinton flacks to (primarily in the case of Trump) repeat the candidates' lies and start presenting fact based analysis. And by the way, when a candidate lies, call it a lie. And back up what you say with the facts. And Brian, stop with the "who can know what's in a person't heart" as, I presume, your excuse for not calling a lie a lie.

I've never posted a comment to any political or journalistic websitet, but I can't stand it anymore. Ashley Banfield on CNN this morning expressed disgust at Clinton and Trump calling each other racist, while at the same time breathlessly reporting on it. With a resigned sigh, she asked when "we'll" get back to the issues. CNN and other media outlets are driving the bus for Petey sakes! Yes, Trump is hard to cover because he has no policies and engages in non-stop attacks and name calling, but Clinton gives (yawn!) policy speeches and there's lots of policy on her website and I'll bet if you asked a spokesperson to explain how she plans to help small business, they'd love the air time. So that's my first complaint. Second complaint is the false equivalence between Clinton and Trump. Trump has HIRED as a high level campaign official a guy who says he wants to and in fact does give a platform to far right wing ideologues - I have conservative friends and family who have deserted Trump in droves because they're NOT crazy and racist. Clinton isn't "attacking" Trump - she's pointing out facts. There's no equivalence.

Hey, CNN, stop acting like you're at a tennis match just calling balls and strikes - you're mugging for the cameras, pointing out what the audience is wearing, the grimace on a particular player's face, did you know she hates the other guy, yada, yada. You're PART OF THIS! The only poor slobs who are just watching are us - the American people - we don't get a starring role until November.

Right now, CNN is reporting on the governor of Maine leaving a creepy voice mail for some state rep - tell me, please, as I sit here in NM worried about the economy and inequality and the endless wars we're in, why THAT particular exchange between somebody with no power and somebody nobody knows rates national news coverage? You might as well report on a message I left for my ex-boyfriend, for all the effect any of this has on the nation. You're going to turn into the politics version of the National Enquirer if you're not careful!

He was talking about that reporter and Trump's campaign manager. He deliberately left out of the story that that Reporter was told to go in the back with the other reporters and not be in "the bubble"! But, as soon as Secret Service turned their backs, that female reporter went where she was NOT SUPPOSED TO BE!~ And, she touched Trump and the Campaign Manager had every right to get her away from Trump, for fear she was a threat to him! Reliable Sources, is NOT RELIABLE! Shame on them!

I turned TV on to get some details on this breaking news, however, there was plenty of news on Brussels and just a one liner on the incident in Lahore. This disproportionate coverage is a clear indication that the Western Media does not give a damn about the lives of the others. I am equally disturbed with the loss of lives at both incidences, however, unfortunately the Western media does not think that way.

The speaker has the right to CHOOSE the people who can ask questions. It is not "fair" but that is something Ramos could discuss on his station. Challenges of Police Actions– Many challenges to police actions like arrests or detainings continue to be reported by the media. The media is leaving the public the impression that challenges is "what you do." A strong reason for this is due to the fact that the media does not properly follow thru on these reported challenges, especially those that indicate the original challenge was basless. MEDIA, If a challenge is publicised, FOLLOW THRU!!

Now that I am living with my sunt, it has become our Sunday morning custom to have Sunday Brunch and watch Sunday TV programing. Out usual Sunday line up is : CBS This Sunday Morning, CNN Farheed Zakaria GPS, and then Reliable Sources.

This morning Reliable Sources was extremely disappointing due to its choice of topics. Coverage of Donald Trump and Hulk Hogan crossed a line between tabloid journalism and serious, responsible, intelligent reporting that my aunt and I have come to expect of our Sunday morning shows. Our remedy, of course, was simply to change the channel.

On a more positive note, I rarely find myself agreeing with a Republican consultant on any issue. However, on Rick Wilson's comments on Trump and the media, I agree 100%..he hit the nail on the head.

Show us the proof. There is no sane person who can support the killer. The biggest mistake by all of the media is you have to Unite All Races, instead a lot of coverage and personal comments from reporters working the other way. You doing all you can to create a big name for yourself, become a star overnight, and you don't care about aftermath you created. Very simple example: what is the difference between killing the family of Savvapos in DC and their housekeeper, tortured their 10 years old son and 9 worshippers peaceful beautiful people? There is no differences. These crimes are both outrageous and hateful. There no justification for both of them . Unfortunately the coverage of both is not showing any moves to unite people of different races by media.

Though I don't regularly watch your program, I did catch it this Sunday when you interviewed the Editor of Cosmopolitan magazine regarding the expected liberal bias reporting for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming 2016 presidential election. The expected cheerleading for Hillary couldn't have been made more clear then when the editor stated that the liberal and democratic candidates universally represent policies more advantageous to millenials. More glaring was her continued oining for more female candidates while both she and the interviewer summarily dismissed the fact that the republican party already has a female candidate running. It is fine to have these liberal bubble mouthpieces on but if you fail to provide an alternative or opposing interviews you are simply propping up the continued problems with the media in this country. I look forward to seeing the front page picture and feature article on Ms. Fiorini in an upcoming Cosmo issue.

Last Sunday’s segment about media coverage of so-called police misconduct and race left me wanting to rename that portion of your program “Unreliable Sources”. That’s not to say your show routinely leaves me feeling that way. I just expect better from CNN, which I consider among the most fair-minded cable news. Network. I think the segment gave unequal attention to the prejudices, misperceptions and misconduct to all sides. A fair dialogue would have:

    • Examined the kneejerk public and media reaction to highlight race whenever the officer is white and the civilian is black, but ignore race when the mix different
    • Challenged your guest when he listed Charleston, Staten Island, Ferguson, etc. as a string of police misconduct cases where “black youth were killed in police custody when doing nothing wrong”. While misconduct was certainly the case in Charleston, the police were cleared of misconduct in a number of other cases – Ferguson and Staten Island for example
    • Discussed why the media almost never examines the role unlawful civilian resistance plays in these cases
    • Examined why coverage of murdered police gets only miniscule media coverage when compared to civilian deaths

Clearly, there are serious problems in our society that revolve around race. But when the media ignores some issues and disproportionately covers others they become part of the problem.

I have many problems with the news coverage, the first one being the ad infinitum coverage of the issue of the day or the week or the month to the exclusion of any other news. I watch a lot of CNN and they are the most guilty. For instance, I could not turn on the TV without Baltimore for the last week. I saw nothing about Nepal. I would have known nothing about anything else going on in the world. The second one is that I don't see enough of the first line reporters correcting guests that they have when what those guests are claiming is dead wrong. Reporters are supposed to be objective, and that is a good thing, but aren't they supposed to determine the truth?

In the hoods amongst Black Americans, just as they use the "N" word amongst themselves. But as soon as some one out of their circle uses it the cry foul play and the race card is put on the table. A person is called a "Thug" when he/she is living outside the Law, doing crime. I have been watching the coverage of Baltimore since the beginning and when the word Thugs was used I knew without a shadow of a doubt it was referring those that were committing looting and destroying property and not the peaceful and law abiding demonstrators

Thank you for allowing a journalist – and behold a female at that – to actually defy the unwritten but universally followed code that alleged rape victims should have their names revealed by media outlets. Her reasoning that this code has led to poor reporting is valid. But it is not the only reason. It should not be the media's responsibility or ethic to provide the aura of a welcoming climate where women are more willing to come forward with these allegations, despite what may or may not happen to them in the aftermath. That is not the job of the reporting media. Journalism provides no other class of victim or perpetrator a likewise privilege, and it hurts the overall credibility of news organizations. While I am sensitive to what must be a very difficult decision women must face, journalism in the 21st Century must be neutral in all situations, not just ones that media companies pick and choose. I was almost drummed out of the journalistic corps for arguing the same point many times.

Love Reliable Sources but was very sad to hear the long advertisment for the NY Times. I do miss Kurz but will get use to Brian and hope he improves.

I was deeply disappointed in Brian's perfunctory coverage of the controversy over Indiana's RFRA act. At no time did he challenge the guest who kept referring to RFRA cases that referred to government intrusion on religious freedom. The whole point to the Indiana controversy was it implicitly conferred religious freedom rights to corporations and individuals and did not explicitly protect against civil liberties discrimination. I expected more from Brian. What a disgraceful bit of reporting that added no clarity to the discussion.
